4th-Jan-2008 10:59 pm - Happy New Year

Hello 2008!!!

I haven't much to say, but books I have officially finished in 2008 are:

The Time Travellers  by ?
Atonement by Ian McEwan
The Imposter by Celeste Bradley

A healthy mixture of YA, literature and romance. A good start to the year.

Cheers!

Hello from your favourite diet-Coke addict, fun-loving , accountant wannabee dork!

I finished two crazy ass MBA presentation this weekend and am exhausted but I do have a fun story to share.

On Friday I found out that Faith Erin Hicks is currently living in Halifax and has just published her first graphic novel: Zombies Calling. I use to read Hick's webcomic "Demonology:101" in university. On Saturday she was having a book signing at Strange Adventures from 2-4pm on Saturday (yesterday). I was in class from 8.30 to 4.30, where the prof hinted that it may go longer due to the INSANE amount of presentations were forced to do with only the hope of the possibility of large salaries at the end of the two year programme.

We did manage to get out at 4.30 so I flew downtown, fought hoards of traffic for the tree-lightening ceremony for HRM and miraculously found a parking 2 blocks away from SA. And she was still there! And was super sweet and signed the book and put a doodle in it. I tried not to be a fan-girl but she was there and I was really late.

Then this afternoon, I went to see Enchanted (by my lonesome, but that's okay) and who came in later and sat down in front of me - Faith Hicks. She didn't see me and I didn't saw anything because that is really stalkerish. Isn't funny how things likes that happen.

Anyway, Zombies Calling is frickin' hilarious- go buy your own company.  Always remember the rules!!!

3rd-Nov-2007 02:00 pm - Hurriance Noel

So, Nova Scotia is being hammered with Hurricane Noel.  It's going to be so bad that they are sending a Financial Analyst to Truro to help with storm prep via safety and anything else the PLTS (power line technicans) will need. I am running out the door now,  kinda nervous.

Okay, here is my 2nd 2nd attempt in this. The first 2nd is because this is  episode 2, the second 2nd is because I was half way through the last one and the computer went wonky = lost everything.

25th-Oct-2007 08:54 pm - [picspam] Gundam 00

Since I seen a few people do this, I thought I would give it ago after watching the first episode of Gundam 00. I don't pretend to be a Gundam mega-fan; I did enjoy Gundam Wing and watched Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny. I tried to wacth X but the interest wasn't there. Anyway, this picspam will following the series with highlights I think is funny, interesting or completely off the wall. Remember I watch the series for the political intrigue ... and the prettily drawn boys, that can KILL you with a glare. Yes, Meara, I -heart- Heero Yuy too.

17th-Sep-2007 09:19 pm - Mr. Robert Jordan

This morning I learned the author of the Wheel of Time series has passed away. Apparently he was suffering from the disease amyloidosis. According to Mayoclinic.com "Amyloidosis is a rare and potentially fatal disease that occurs when substances called amyloid proteins build up in your organs. Amyloid is an abnormal protein usually produced by cells in your bone marrow that can be deposited in any tissue or organ.Amyloidosis can affect different organs in different people, and there are many types of amyloid. Amyloidosis frequently affects the heart, kidneys, liver, spleen, nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. The exact cause of amyloidosis is unknown, and there's no cure for amyloidosis."

I never realized that Mr. Jordan had a blog. However, on all his 'About the Author' backpage it always mentioned that he would write until they nailed shut his coffin. I always had a morbid chuckle over it, and now it has come true. There is a little part of me that feels lost. The Wheel of Time series for me started in junior high, after I discovered the fantasy genre for adults as oppose to YA.  The series and the tale that Mr. Jordan spun was a wonderful escape for me. His imagine was something that I never quite seen matched, and the complex detailed in the dozens of characters that make up the world is staggering. He was once describe as the person who mastered the genre that Tolkien only began to explore ... or something to that effect.

Though I never met the man and most people I know never heard of him, he will be missed.

He will be in my prayers, along with Mrs. Howard who just passed away recently as well.

18th-Aug-2007 07:51 am - Butterflies in my eyes

Lauren K. Hamilton's Obsidian Butterfly

Quickie book thought under the cut. Spoilers ahoy.

In all, this book was found in horror section of the library so if blood and ghost and goulies aren't your cup of tea this may not be the best choice for you.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and will continue on with the next two books. After that, I will loop around to the start of the series to fill in the background. =)

11th-Aug-2007 10:33 pm - Cherries and smiles.

August already! Where has the time gone?

There hasn't been too new going on with me at the moment. Same old stuff, different day. The only exciting news is that I'm officially in the MBA-CMA programme. Phew ... I didn't think I was going to get this far. Now I'm a bundle of nerves trying to get the step all lined up. I'm moving in 2 weeks (boxed up my books and half of my clothing -I tend to wear the same things over and over again), continuing my marathon train (though my feet blistered and got infected) and trucking along with work.

"Everything is well," she smiles with a cherry smile.

19th-Jul-2007 07:10 am - news and such

Whoo, busy busy since Sunday. However its a busy that I choose and I'm loving it.

The super big news is that I passed my Entrance Exam and can now officially work towards my professional accounting designation. How cool is that? Instead of having a title at the beginning of my name like Miss or Lady or Doctor or  Emperoress I'll have letters at the end of my name.

M. L. McNamara, MBA-CMA  <- look instant boost of salary by like 300%. Watch out world, I'm entering phase 2 of world domination.

I'm not sure if anyone from Alison Kent's blog clicked into my LJ, if so come introduce yourself. As well, on Sunday I'm going to post the evolution that is Whereabouts of Happiness on from its origins with dealing to bullies to now being my twist on classic fairytales.

15th-Jul-2007 08:41 pm - Updates
1/2 Marathon
Tuesday: 4Km - 20 minutes.  (A horrible run. Though my pace was faster than normal, I was out of breath, aching and had to walk for a minute to catch my breath at about 3.2k in.)
Friday: 6.8Km - 60 minutes. A much better run, I can ran from my home in HB to the beach in back. It was hot as blazes and I only walked for a total of 3 minutes (due to a stitch in my side). I need to improve my game from Tuesday.
Sunday: 9.1 km - 1 hour, 17 minutes. My longest run yet. My legs still ache. Once again, it was warm though I headed out at 8:30. This was the first time I tackled hills, so though my time was disappointing, my distance came in alright.

70/sweat.
Target: 1000 words per day so 7000 per week.
Actual: 1167 for the complete week.
I need to step up with this.

Anyway, long day. Running and then driving 3 hours back into the city with crazy tourist traffic.

PS: Australian Next Top Model is soooo addictive.
